We toured Kyoto with Yoshiko on a rainy Saturday and it was excellent.
It was fun to experience the warm hospitality from a “local” who was able to communicate with us in English. (Our Japanese is non-existent!)
We informed Yoshiko ahead of time of what we wanted to eat and where we wanted to walk, and she took our suggestions and made them real! It was great not having to look at a map every few minutes, and we could truly appreciate Kyoto for the great city it is!
All the little curiosities about Japan and things we had observed were demystified, and it was great to stop at stores and cafes knowing that we could order whatever we wanted.
This is a great, casual way to explore Japan and you end up making a friend in the end.
